Promoting Biological Diversity and Ecosystem Services in Socio-ecological Production Landscapes
Organizers: Ministry of the Environment of Japan with UNU-IAS and the Nature Conservation Society of Japan
The United Nations University - Institute of Advanced Studies, in conjunction with relevant partners, will convene a side event on "Promoting Biological Diversity and Ecosystem Services in Socio-ecological Production Landscapes". The event will be held on 10 October 2012 during the 11th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in Hyderabad, India.
This event is intended to contribute to the promotion of the Satoyama Initiative and facilitate the discussions on Agenda 13.6 “Sustainable use of biodiversity” and Agenda 9 “Ecosystem restoration” among other items to maintain and restore socio-ecological production landscapes (SEPLs), which are formed and maintained through human activities.
Speakers from different parts of the world will share their experiences on promoting biodiversity and ecosystem services while enhancing local livelihood in SEPLs. The presentations will be followed by a discussion related to landscape governance, ecosystem services and assessment.
